Pain after root canal retreatment usually subsides within a few days. One study found that 45.5% of patients experienced mild pain, 18.2% experienced moderate pain, and 12.4% experienced severe pain. However, most patients became completely pain-free after 33.8 months. Pre-treatment pain status and the treatment technique used can influence the duration and severity of postoperative pain. Long-term pain, that is, pain lasting more than a year, is extremely rare, occurring in only 4.9% of cases.
