Connective tissue grafts are used to cover exposed tooth roots, particularly for the treatment of gum recession; this reduces tooth sensitivity and improves aesthetics. They are also used to thicken thin or poorly keratinized gums around teeth and dental implants, which reduces inflammation and prevents future gum recession. Connective tissue grafts are also used to correct mucogingival defects and treat developmental anomalies such as missing keratinized gingiva.
