Post-restorative sensitivity is quite common, with prevalence rates varying between 0% and 50% depending on the type of treatment used and the tooth. Class II fillings, in particular, are particularly sensitive in posterior teeth. Postoperative sensitivity rates can range from 20% to 40% in direct composite fillings. Deep cavities have higher sensitivity rates than medium-depth cavities, while complex restorations are more sensitive than simple Class I fillings. This sensitivity generally decreases over time after treatment.
